The advanced bending techniques course is an intensive two-day program that includes understanding the basic biomechanical principles of wire-bracket systems used in fixed orthodontics and the practical application of treatment mechanics. On the first day, during the morning session, basic loop bending Omega, Bull, Bullous, Cherry loops is theoretically explained, and following the demonstration, the trainees are asked to fabricate these bendings. In the afternoon session, first order bends are made on the lower and upper arch wires.
On the second day, the second and the third order bends are introduced and the trainees asked to fabricate these bends following the demonstration. In the afternoon, mandibular and maxillary prescription arch wires bending are made. In the last part of the course, mandibular and maxillary prescription cloosing loop archwires are fabricated. Ideal loop activations are made by placing bending arch wires on the typodont. Each stage of arch wire and loop bending are introduced to the trainees in detail on the typodont and they are provided with one by one practice with instructor.
The main objectives of this course are to better understand basic orthodontic force/torque systems and biomechanical principles, to increase archwire twisting manipulations, and to perform easily all kinds of bending in clinical practice.
